From the church of the Rev. Cathy George, St. Mary’s Episcopal Church:
[blockquote] St Mary’s is a place to escape dogma, and seek an adult relationship with God[/blockquote]
I wonder what part of the truth revealed by God (dogma) that they’re escaping?

No. 1: Or if she’s familiar with Dorothy L. Sayers’s famous comment?

  3. paradoxymoron says:

Never heard that myself; thanks very much!

  4. David Hein says:

DLS: “The dogma is the drama.”

A great statement because that’s exactly the opposite of what the conventional wisdom holds–from my students on up.

But shouldn’t clergy (not just Sayers) be excited by the dogma–and know how to show its pertinence to common life?

Mercy. Spare us from more of these aging hip clergy. They seem to feel a need to talk in advertising placards; has the membership problem really come to that?
